Custom Architectural Windows

ArchiecturalJ. Sussman, Inc. windows can be produced in virtually any shape or size, with or without thermal breaks and with true muntins. They can be configured with combinations of fixed, projected and casements. Please see our Typical Elevations page for a representation of what we offer.

J. Sussman, Inc. has dual finishing capability. This means that our architectural window systems can be a different finish on the interior and exterior. J. Sussman, Inc. is able to do this utilizing our in-house Thermal Strip Technology. Two different aluminum extrusions are finished independent of each other and then joined together with two 6/6 polyamide nylon thermal strips. Besides being thermally efficient, these high strength strips have the same coefficient of expansion as aluminum so that dry shrinkage is eliminated and the structural integrity of the window is intact. This eliminates some of the issues with the dated “pour in the bridge” thermal break system and provides an element of added strength.

Besides the standard architectural window (4200 Series), J. Sussman has a Historic/Replication window system (4600 Series). The 4200 Series has a beveled exterior to replicate the appearance of steel putty glazed windows. This system has the traditional look of steel but with all the benefits of an aluminum frame.

The 4800 Series has equal site lines for both vent and fixed lites. This makes the ventilators concealed and indistinguishable from the fixed lites, offering a slim and tidy appearance.

4200 Series Architectural Windows

With an ever-increasing emphasis on color and aesthetics in the construction industry, J. Sussman, Inc. has developed the 4200 Series to help meet this demand. J. Sussman, Inc. now has the in house ability to produce windows with different colors and finishes to the exterior and interior. This is achieved with the use of the Thermal Strip System. Two different aluminum extrusions can be finished independent of each other and then joined together with two 6/6 polyamide nylon thermal strips. Besides being thermally efficient, these high strength strips have the same coefficient of expansion as aluminum so that dry shrinkage is eliminated and the structural integrity of the window is intact. The result is a stronger thermally improved window with capability of different colors and finishes inside and out.

4200 Detail

Features:

  • 2 1/2″ deep thermally broken frame and sash will meet or exceed AAMA P-HC70 and F-AW55 monumental performance specifications. Ventilators, muntins and meeting rails are all double tubular.
  • Frame corners have tightly fitted hairline joints that are factory sealed.
  • Sash corners are accurately mitered, heavy angle reinforced, epoxy welded and hydraulically crimped.
  • Each ventilator has two wear resistant nylon glides independent of the hinge to insure maximum alignment and weather tightness.
  • Ventilators are available in project-in, project-out, or casement.

4600 Series Historic Replication Windows

The 4600 series is a historical replication window with a beveled exterior and with narrow and equal site lines at vents and fixed lites. Thermally broken using Thermal Strip technology allows different finishes interior and exterior. Available as project-out vents, outswing casements, fixed lites or combinations of each.

  • AAMA P-HC55, F-AW65 Performance Class.
  • Full 2 1/2″ deep frame with tubular muntins, meeting rails and ventilator sash. Ventilator sash is angle reinforced. (Consult factory for full specifications)
  • Beveled exterior to replicate the appearance of steel putty glazed windows.
  • Narrow and equal site lines at vents and fixed lites. Ventilators are indistinguishable from fixed lites and concealed from the interior.
  • Available as project-out vents, outswing casements, fixed lites or combinations of each.
  • he thermal strip is a specially formulated and constructed extrusion of glass fiber reinforced 6/6 polyamide nylon. Besides being thermally efficient, these high strength strips have the same coefficient of expansion as aluminum so that the structural integrity of the window is intact.

4800 Series Equal Siteline Windows

The 4800 Series has equal sitelines for both vent and fixed lites making the ventilators concealed and indistinguishable from the fixed lites. Thermally broken using Thermal Strip technology allows different finishes interior and exterior. Available as project-in vents, inswing casements, fixed lites or combinations of each.

2400 Series Non-Thermal Protection Windows

The 2400 series is a high quality heavy duty monumental performance window. This series is available as project-in, project-out, casement and fixed units. These non-thermal windows can be fabricated into rectangular as well as unusual designs that will keep the integrity of virtually and opening.

2400 Series Detail

Features:

  • Full 2″ deep frame with 1/8″ thick walls will meet or exceed AAMA P-HC70 and F-HC80 monumental performance specifications.
  • Glazing up to 1″ can be accommodated.
  • Frame corners have tightly fitted hairline joints that are factory sealed.
  • Frames and sash corners are either fully welded or heavy angle reinforced, epoxy welded and hydraulically crimped.
  • Each ventilator has two wear resistant nylon glides independent of the hinge to insure maximum alignment and weather tightness.
  • The 2400 series is interchangeable with and lines up with the 2440 series.

200X Series Non Thermal Windows

This series is ideally suited for the protection of existing stained glass windows. It is available as project-in, project-out, casement and fixed units (picture window) that can be fabricated into an unlimited number of designs and shapes to keep the architectural integrity of the existing church window.  If the protection window is used to protect a double hung window a project-out ventilator is used. The double hung stained glass windows is lifted and then the project-out ventilator is pushed out to allow ventilation.Venting is also available to help eliminate condensation between the stained glass and the protection window.  Vent holes are screened and hooded to prevent insect, dust and water infiltration.

200X Series Detail

Features:

  • Full 1 5/8″ deep sections with tubular sash and meeting rails will meet or exceed AAMA P C40 andF-HC80 commercial performance specifications.
  • All corners are either fully welded or heavy angle reinforced, epoxy welded and hydraulically crimped.
  • Metal is strategically placed to give maximum strength yet light enough to make a substantial difference in price.
  • Glazing up to 1″ can be accommodated.
  • Stainless steel hinges and solid white bronze hardware are standard.
  • Each ventilator has two wear resistant nylon glides independent of the hinge to insure maximum alignment and weather tightness.
  • The 200X series is interchangeable with, and lines up with the 240X series.
